Trying to decide between the HP Latex 630 and 730? In this blog, we’ll break down the four biggest differences to help you choose the right printer for your business.
HP Latex 630 vs 730: Top 4 Differences Explained
HP has been rolling out its newest generation of Latex printers in phases, and it’s stirred up plenty of questions from sign shops and print providers. The HP Latex 630 and 630W launched first in 2023, designed as entry-level, low-volume solutions. Then, in spring 2024, HP expanded the lineup with the Latex 730, 730W, 830, and 830W—models built for higher production environments.
While the HP Latex 830 is the flagship with top-tier speed and ink efficiency, many buyers find themselves choosing between the HP Latex 630 and HP Latex 730. On the surface, they look nearly identical. But as Andy explains in our latest video, what’s under the hood can make a big difference for your business.
Let’s break down the top four differences between the HP Latex 630 and 730 so you can make a confident buying decision.

1. Print Speed and Productivity
The most noticeable difference between the HP Latex 630 and 730 is speed.
The HP Latex 630 is built for entry-level or low-volume production. In its standard 6-pass print mode—the sweet spot for quality and efficiency—it prints at 151 square feet per hour. To put that into perspective, printing a full 60″ x 150′ roll takes about five hours.
The HP Latex 730, on the other hand, delivers a big productivity boost. In the same 6-pass mode, it prints at 226 square feet per hour, roughly 50% faster. That means the same full roll can be completed in under three and a half hours.
Why the speed difference? The Latex 730 has twice as many printheads—six for color and two for white—compared to the 630’s three color heads and one white head. HP also added extra fans and a longer curing unit to handle the increased output, ensuring prints are fully dried as they exit the printer.
If production speed matters to your workflow, the Latex 730 clearly pulls ahead.
2. Fabric Printing Capability
Planning to print on open-weave fabrics or liner-free textiles? This is a critical difference.
Some HP Latex printers support an optional ink collector kit, which captures ink that passes through porous fabrics. The HP Latex 630 and 630W do not support this kit, making them unsuitable for true fabric printing.
The HP Latex 730 does support the ink collector kit, making it the right choice if fabric graphics are part of your business now—or might be in the future.
3. Automatic Double-Sided Printing
One of the most exciting features to return with the Latex 730 and 830 series is automatic double-sided printing.
This feature existed in older HP 500-series printers, disappeared in later models, and is now back. With the HP Latex 730, double-sided printing is as simple as enabling a setting. The printer adds a registration mark, and after you flip the roll, it automatically aligns the second side with impressive accuracy.
The HP Latex 630 does not offer double-sided printing, making the 730 the clear choice if you plan to produce double-sided banners or graphics efficiently.

4. Advanced White Ink and 5-Layer Printing
This difference applies to the “W” models only, which include white ink capability.
Both the Latex 630W and 730W support spot white, underflood, overflood, and 3-layer white ink modes. However, the Latex 730W goes a step further with exclusive access to 5-layer white ink printing.
This advanced mode prints:
- Color
- White
- Black (blockout)
- White
- Color
It’s ideal for printing on clear materials where each side has a unique image. Because of the heavy ink load and curing demands, this mode is only available on the Latex 730W and 830W. Plus, the 730W can be up to three times faster than the 630W in white ink modes.
If white ink applications are central to your business, this feature alone can justify stepping up to the 730W.

Our Final Thoughts
At first glance, the HP Latex 630 and 730 look nearly identical. Both offer a 64″ print width, 1-liter ink boxes, and optional white ink. But when you dig deeper, differences in speed, fabric support, double-sided printing, and white ink capabilities can have a major impact on your production and profitability.
