Introducing the Epson SureColor S9170
Earlier this summer at Drupa, Epson offered a teaser for what would become their newest eco-solvent printer. Now, after attending the PRINTING United Expo 2024, we can share exciting new details about the Epson SureColor S9170 64″ Roll-to-Roll Solvent Printer.
The SureColor S9170 was the star of Epson’s booth at PRINTING United, introducing several innovative features while maintaining the performance that Epson’s S-Series printers are known for. So, what makes the S9170 a standout?
Compact, Streamlined Design
The Epson SureColor S9170 will feature a sleek, low-profile, compact design, making it easier to integrate into any print shop without compromising on the 64” print width. This streamlined, flat design will add convenience to daily operations, as it takes up less space than traditional solvent printers.
Enhanced Ink Technology
The S9170 will utilize Epson’s well-established Ultrachrome GS3 ink set, also used in the popular S80600. However, a significant upgrade is the addition of a new Green ink, which will boost the color gamut by an impressive 15%. This addition allows the S9170 to cover over 99% of the Pantone library, a feature unparalleled in the solvent and latex printing market.
While Epson has removed the optional Metallic ink channel, it continues to offer White ink as an option, with faster print speeds compared to previous models. The inks are available in both 800ml and 1.5L bags, and users can mix and match bag sizes to optimize costs based on usage.
MicroPiezo Print Technology
The Epson SureColor S9170 will come equipped with a 2.6” MicroPiezo TFP print head—more than double the size of the current generation. This larger print head will enhance both print speeds and reduce banding through advanced waveform technology. However, specific speed metrics are still to be announced.
User-Replaceable Print Heads
One of the most groundbreaking features of the Epson S9170 is its user-replaceable print heads. For the first time in solvent printer technology, users can replace print heads without any specialized tools or expertise. This capability ensures faster recovery times in case of print head failure, minimizing downtime and improving overall productivity.
Release Date & Pre-Orders
The Epson SureColor S9170 is expected to begin shipping in early 2025, and pre-orders have already started. As for pricing, Epson has yet to release specific details on both the printer and ink costs.
